Kwantlen Alerts

I want to alert AskAway librarians to 2 things that may come up when dealing with Kwantlen students. We hope to have both incidents resolved soon but just in case you come across it in the next few weeks:
1. Security Certificate Alert

Capilano University Holdings Problems

Capilano University is reporting problems with their GODOT holdings display:
"When anyone from off-campus (such as a student or an Askawayer), clicks on "Where can I get This?" to link to holdings from any of our databases, the screen that comes up shows the SFU holdings screen not the CapU one. The links all require an SFU login so our students are not able to access any links nor to request the item.
SFU and Cap are working on this and hoping to solve it as soon as possible.
Thanks to the Askawayers who brought this to our attention."

TWU Library Services Disruption March 7-8

TWU will be doing a critical server upgrade on March 7 & 8. While the library server is not directly involved, library services that use the main TWU server are. No one is sure exactly what will happen, but this is what they feel is the likely scenario:
On March 7 and 8, online library services & resources will be disrupted due to computer systems maintenance .Alloway Library staff want to ensure that library patrons are prepared for this outage.

To enable a software update, the VIU Library online public access catalogue (OPAC) and all online Library services will be unavailable for the afternoon of Monday, February 23, 2009. The update process will begin at 1:30pm and will take approximately 4 hours.

UFV Proxy Server offline

The UFV Proxy server is offline until at least Wed., Feb. 18th pm. This affects off campus access to all our licensed databases, ebooks, ejournals, etc.
Workarounds - Students can come to campus; or they may use our list of free databases.
Refer to our homepage for more information.

Camosun Library Server Migration

From Margie at Camosun:
We are moving to a new server during July 16, 17 & 18 which will, obviously, affect service to our website and resources. Currently, there is a notice on our library homepage about the upgrade; on the morning of the 16th, this will be replaced with a page that has info about and links to, what is available (including AA) depending on whether you are on or off campus. Off campus access is not available for ALL our databases so there will be a list of what is/is not available.

Blackwell/Wiley Content Access Issues

A tip from one of our service providers:
Blackwell journals may not be available online because of a less than smooth merger with Wiley InterScience.
UBC has a good explanation of the issues here http://weblogs.elearning.ubc.ca/eresourcestatus/
I had a couple of patrons on AskAway (one from UVic and one from UBC) both asking why they were being sent to a commercial site even though they logged in through their library.
